Ultra-processed, processed, unprocessed

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

According to recent studies, Canadians are consuming almost half of their calories from ultra-processed foods. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

These foods are going through many steps of processing and have a lot of ingredients. If you don’t know the ingredients and have too many to read, these are red flags.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Processed foods on the other hand can contain sugar, salt and / or fat. They can still be part of healthy eating habits. Examples are tofu, cheese, crackers and bread.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Unprocessed foods are free of chemical additives and are rich in nutrients. They should make the most of your plate 🌱 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
