Spotlight on garlic

Nature is awakening all around us. We have garlic shoots in our backyard garden that are showing.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Garlic is planted in the fall. Homegrown garlic is easy to harvest.


My fave part about it : you can start enjoying garlic scapes late June before the harvest 😋⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It’s considered a seasonal produce all year round since it can be conserved for a few months. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Make sure you keep indigenous bulbs aside in the fall for planting. The “Music” variety is the one we use in our garden. See my “Garden” highlight for a how-to.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When you purchase garlic, always look from where they are produced. Most times you will find a locally grown option. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Garlic is known for it’s cancer fighting properties as well as heart and gut health benefits. Thanks to it’s precious prebiotics, phytochemicals and sulfur compounds.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In order to allow enough time for allicin to be formed thus maximizing its potential, wait 10 minutes after slicing, chopping or crushing garlic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
